Donna Harakas

Wild Roses & Blooms was created by Donna Harakas, a certificate graduate in Floral Design from the prestigious and very beautiful New York Botanical Garden. When necessary she follows rules but has a rebellious wild side that enjoys defying them.  Her quintessential Connecticut antique farmhouse and beautiful surrounding land provide constant inspiration throughout all four seasons. The beautiful gardens she has created define her aesthetic and quest to be constantly creating beauty.

Every season has its moments of beauty from sculptural snow drifts partially covering old stone walls while embracing evergreens, berries and bare branches, to the height of late spring with its profusion of peonies, viburnum, and rhododendron.  All blooms and seasonal beauty are fleeting moments in time.  Their impermanence reminds us to always enjoy each moment of our lives.  Wild Roses & Blooms captures those beautiful moments and celebrates them.

The Antique Farmhouse

It is impossible not to be inspired living in this beautiful Connecticut setting with plenty of floral material to work with seasonally.

Flower Philosophy

At Wild Roses & Blooms, we are gardeners and floristry has become second nature.  For this reason, we are not typical florists purchasing the same material and repeatedly mass producing the same designs.  The essence and nuances of the flowers themselves and our attention to nature guide our artistic compositions.  We work with the seasonality of the flowers and foliage.  Each creation is original and unique.

The Floral Alchemy

Our beautiful floral designs are artistic compositions, creating a visual symphony of color, line, shape, space and texture.  Each flower, although it may be recognizable as a particular variety, is unique.  Their stems may lean or curve, the flower head may be slightly larger or smaller, some color variations may occur, while others may be in bud stage, partially open or fully open in all their glory.

The flowers speak to us and ultimately decide how they will be designed.  These nuances give our work a sculptural quality with every viewpoint quite different.  The curves of the branches, the shape of the flowers, the color palette, all evoke a beautiful English garden captured and celebrated for its beauty.  No two designs are identical.

The Art of Love in Flowers™

Flowers are the physical manifestation of love. Their beauty, the joy of their energy, the ephemeral as well as ethereal quality reminds us to enjoy

each celebratory moment of our lives. This is, The Art of Love in Flowers™.

Design Studio

This beautiful post and beam potting shed is where design plans are created and hatched. Experimenting with the rebellious nature of the “wild” roses occurs here. From growing unusual varieties of flowers to working with the freshest most beautiful flowers, herbs and branches grown locally or from the vast New York City and Connecticut wholesale flower markets. The choices are close to limitless. This is where floral composition occurs.
